2024 RD 1 Turner and McGrath Surge to Triple Wins

By Rolfe Otterness

Koby Turner and Wyatt McGrath ran strong to build up points in three classes each as the Spring Creek Super Series blasted off for the 2024 season.   Turner cleaned up in every moto in the 14-24 C, 250 C and Open C classes.  McGrath did his work in the Schoolboy 2, 14-24B and Open B classes.  Again, a clean sweep through all the motos.   There were 500 entries for the day so many other riders were in attendance to get a headstart on the 2024 series.   Weather was quite cool in the morning and a jacket or sweatshirt was pretty much the style hit of the day although later in the afternoon the sun popped out and it was quite comfortable…for October.   The track conditions were very good except a couple sections where some ruts needed to be tended to a couple of times during the day.

Vince Harens snared a holeshot to lead the pack around turn one as the 14-24C class hit the track for their first moto.  Turner latched onto second quickly and they were off.    Tayden Ludescher slipped into third to provide some pursuit.  Harens was running pretty well and held onto the lead nearly all the way to the flag, but going up Collarbone hill Turner got alongside him.  As they rounded the turn at the top of the hill, Turner ran around the outside and got a drive as they dropped into the downhill side.   He swapped a good one coming down the hill but had the inside around the turn at the bottom and took the win by a bike length over Harens.  Ludescher held on all the way for third although he was challenged seriously on the last couple of laps by Stan Smith and Mason Lewison.

Turner rocketed out from the gate to lead the next moto while Harens established a claim on second with Ludescher returning again to third.   Turner held a hot pace and managed to gradually pull a gap over Harens until finally taking the checkered with a lead of about 5 seconds.  Ludescher was back a ways for third with Stan Smith again fourth and Wyatt Johnson improving from a first moto eighth to a second-moto fifth.

Rob Kniss led the 35+A pack around turn one as they attacked the track for moto one.   Scott Jendro scooted quickly into the lead and began to gap the field in short order.  Mikhail Overby dropped Kniss to third shortly into lap one while Marshall Berns tried out fourth for a lap.   Jendro had the measure of the field and soon had a plus 10 second lead which he carried on to the finish line jump at the conclusion of the moto.  Michael Graber passed Kniss and then Overby on the last lap after some close quarters battling to take second.   Kniss displaced Overby also on the last lap to take fourth.  Kniss once again mastered the start as they took off for moto 2 but Jendro soon took over out front with Graber and Overby in tow.   Graber put in a good effort but Jendro just was too quick and took the win with about 4 seconds over him.   Steve Lorr motored in for third with Overby fourth and Brent Stevenson in fifth.

Milo Maas led the 125 2 stroke class into battle with Kyler Hagedorn right on his rear fender.  These two were really motoring and soon were pulling away from third-place rider Colton Frandsen.   Maas had a bit of an edge over Hagedorn and as the moto progressed he established about a 4 second lead which he used to snag the checkered flag.   Trailing Hagedorn some distance back was Frandsend who was running safely clear of the rest of the pack.  Beau Noaeill, Jeff Lewison and Chase Sweeney were engaged in a battle to the line to end up 4-5-6.

Hagedorn pulled off a holey and led early on in the next moto, Maas in tow and Jett Lewison third.   Nearing the end of lap one, Maas pulled alongside Hagedorn as they motored down the straight towards Collarbone and as they flew over the jumps he pulled ahead into the lead.  Then he was off and starting to pull away a bit until finally hitting the checkered with a 5 second lead.  Hagedorn maintained second with Lewison third over Frandsen.   Noaeill  took fifth this time to wrap up fifth overall.
