The Viking Clash was
presented once again as the Labor Day weekend rolled around and it was another
great day of competition at Spring Creek Park with about 640 entries for the
day. And on Monday came the
penultimate round of the Super Series, Round 12. The weather cooperated and both days
were sunny but
not overly warm. We will recap some of the Clash action
below.
Texan Cade Miller charged
out to lead the first 14-24 C moto and showed he had the pace as he held off
Carson Johanningmeier to take the win after some battling. Bryce Rauner
ran in third for the first half of the moto but Jaxon
Nagel was charging up and dispatched with Spencer Hein and then Rauner to grasp third at the flag. Rauner stabilized
position for fourth over Dustin White.
Johanningmeier shot off
the gate to lead into moto two and at the end of the first lap held off Miller
and Rauner. Miller cranked on the throttle and
pulled into the lead shortly then edged away a bit from Johanningmeier while Rauner was feeling the effects of a Nagel attack. On the last lap Miller biffed it
and dropped way back before he could get moving again. Johanningmeier inherited the lead
and was off to the win. Nagel
hammered his way up to second with Ryan Bussen
jumping up a couple places to third and White taking fourth over Brandon
Carlson. Miller
finished but back in 12th to wrap up a fifth place overall.
None other than Joe Kidd
roosted out of the gate to lead the 35 Plus B class into the super wide turn
one with the rest of the class nipping at his knobby! But Scott Ophoven
smashed through to the lead in short order while Kidd dropped back a bit to
battle with Eddie Kruger.
Tony Scully sprinted to second with Levi Peterson grasping hard to
third. That set the order at
the flag with Dan Schoumaker scooping up fourth over
Kidd at the checkered. Ophoven demonstrated his mastery of the track again in moto
two as he pushed out to a good-sized lead over Peterson early in the moto. Scully managed to take second away
from a slightly fading Peterson on the last lap while Kruger rounded out the
top four.
In moto one of the 65cc
7-11 class Cash Anderson led through turn one but soon found Carson Wittman
zipping by for the lead. Wittman
had found his mojo and started to gap Anderson while Colin Megaw motored around
in third holding off Tucker Couette. When the checkered finally
dropped on the moto it was Wittman, Anderson and Megaw hanging in there while
Austin Moeller moved up in the last couple of laps to take fourth over Cooper
Lanning. Moto two worked out
much the same as Wittman led every lap and topped the podium with Anderson and
Megaw once again scoring 2-3 finishes. Couette was fourth over Talon
Burns as they filled out the top five.
